Hello… My Introduction
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and explain why I decided to start this site.
My name is Kevin Bowler. I thought I’d start by making sure that I take full responsibility for the content of the posts on this and my other site. I have no credentials whatsoever. I’m a husband to a wonderful wife. I’m a father to 4 amazing children and a very grateful grandfather to 3½ incredible grandchildren. I am LDS. Born in the church. Inactive for many years. Converted somewhat later in life. That being said, I openly and gratefully acknowledge the bias that I have as I write about things. I make no apology for that bias… I am grateful for it.
Welcome to The Perihelion. A Perihelion is the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid, or comet at which it is closest to the sun. For earth, that point is always sometime in the winter. (If you live in the northern hemisphere.) This year it was on January 4, 2017. Strange that in the depth of our winter we are actually closest to the Sun.
I formed this blog under that name to remind us that when we are in our coldest and darkest times, the Son – Jesus Christ – is always closest to us. He is ready to help lift us out of that darkness, out of that coldness. If we trust Him. If we listen and obey Him. If we LOVE HIM!
I have mixed feelings about blogs and blog sites in general. Most successful sites create mass commenting as a result of mass contention. That is not my goal, though to some level it is unavoidable. Haters absolutely gotta hate. That will actually be the subject of one of my first submissions.
I have a couple of reasons for doing this. First and foremost, I think it is a valid way to make sure that my children know exactly what I believe. This will stand as a witness to them about some of those beliefs. I’m sure they will read it after I’m gone since it’s unlikely they’ll spend much time here until then. Second, I honestly believe that I can share insights that might be of benefit to some. If I’m wrong… nothing lost but my time and goal number one will still be valid.
All of you are welcome to visit here and to join our community. Your comments and insights will often be of more value than my original posts.
I do have a very simple rule. As long as comments and opinions (even opposing views) are expressed without profanities or personal attacks, they will be allowed. I will personally moderate every comment that comes through this site.
I make one final suggestion. As you read the posts, I want you to pay close attention to what you feel. I would also like you to focus on what feelings you have as you read the comments. It is likely that in some cases, the comments will invoke a spirit of contention. As I have recognized this, I tend to stay away from most comment boards. Doesn’t matter if it’s KSL or NFL or any other site. I realize to a large extent this is a self-defeating suggestion for a blogger, but as you can see… none of my goals involve generating mass followers and monetizing the site.
My suggestion to you is simple… at some point stop spending time in contentious environments. Spend less time being entertained and more time being inspired. I also developed and personally moderate a companion site to this one.
It is www.oneldsvoice.com. That site is different than most. It was designed to be completely interactive, with shared stories from members of that community. Because of the sacred nature of the testimonies shared there, our moderators will not allow comments that demean or deride anyone’s contribution. At the end of the day… spend some time with us over there and see if you feel better than after spending time on other social media sites.
If you would like to join this community and receive notices of my latest posts, please leave an email. I know these days that is actually asking a lot. But I will never spam you. I will not share your email with others.
If you choose to actively participate (comment or guest post) you will need to do more than simply subscribe. You will need to join us at https://theperihelion.com/index.php/register/
Once again… Welcome to The Perihelion!
